As part of an ongoing drive to boost tourism in Dubai, His Highness Shaikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai has announced a tourism project called Marsa Al Arab.

The project includes developing two islands, on either side of the Burj Al Aran Jumeirah, attached to the Madinat Jumeirah resort. Due to start this month, the islands will be completed by the end of 2020 and will cost Dh6.3billion (approx. £1.3 billion).

Luxury islands to attract families

Combined, the islands will total more than four million square feet, with more than 2km of beaches lining them. One island will be specifically geared towards families and entertainment, aiming to entice holidaymakers from all over the world.

The second island will concentrate on a luxurious resort, also aimed at luring families to increase tourism in Dubai. The Jumeirah Group will be offering new services and leisure concepts to add to its existing family orientated offerings. There will be 400 brand new food and beverage outlets included throughout the islands, and 2,400 hotel rooms, bringing the Jumeirah Group’s total hotel rooms to 8,428 rooms.

Wild Wadi Waterpark will double in size

As well as a hotel designed specifically for families, the project will include moving the Wild Wadi Waterpark to a better location near to the beach. The waterpark will end up doubled in size, with lots of new rides and attractions.

A marine life entertainment and education centre called Marine Park is also part of the development, according to the statement from Dubai Holding. It will feature a theatre with a one thousand seat capacity, and the park will exhibit different parts of marine life. Visitors will be able to interact with fish and exotic sea animals. Combined, the waterpark and marine park will encompass an area of 2.5 million square feet.

In addition to these attractions, the new site will also have a theatre that will be able to seat 1,700 people. This will be the permanent home of the world-renowned theatre troupe Cirque du Soleil.

The project is expected to enhance Dubai’s reputation as a family friendly global tourist destination, as part of the ongoing economic diversification of the city.
